AGLP Responds to Flawed HHS Report on Gender Dysphoria
AGLP: The Association of LGBTQ+ Psychiatrists strongly criticizes the report released today by the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) regarding gender dysphoria. The report's methodology is deeply flawed and its conclusions are unsupported by scientific evidence—jeopardizing the health and well-being of transgender and gender diverse individuals.
In stark contrast to the overwhelming medical consensus, the HHS report ignores the clear guidance of leading U.S. health authorities including the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American Psychiatric Association who have all identified that decades of research demonstrate that gender-affirming care is crucial for reducing gender dysphoria and improving mental-health outcomes—evidence the HHS report fails to address.
AGLP urges HHS to retract this misleading report and calls on policymakers to prioritize evidence-based policies that respect individuals' dignity and rights to healthcare without discrimination. It is critical that decisions affecting healthcare access are grounded in accurate, peer-reviewed science and reflect the needs of all patients.
